Poster: Seawater Desalination |
Fresh water is a problem in
many parts of the world, and Israel is addressing its own water problems with
projects such as building and operating the worlds largest Seawater Reverse
Osmosis (SWRO) plant in Ashkelon, Israel.
According
to www.water-technology.net, the plant has a capacity of 320,000m3 per
day, the plant produces around 13% of the country's domestic consumer demand
equivalent to 56% of Israel's total water needs at one of the world's lowest
ever prices for desalinated water. The plant was originally designed to
produce about 15% of its current capacity, yet now operates as the largest
production plant of its type in the world, thus leading the way for such
projects in other countries with similar water shortage
problems.
Israel has shown the world that similar
water desalination plants can be built in North Africa and other parts of the
world where safe drinking water is scarce, not only so people will be able to
have fresh drinking water, but because famine could be eliminated by the virtue
of using this technology for farming irrigation, hygiene and other needs.
Israel is leading the way in turning sea water into safe drinking water to
build a better world for everyone. |
